Ooh Art
Ooh Art began as a collaborative venture between husband and wife artists Andy Hill and Carol Kemp in October 2016. It is an Art and Designer Craft Gallery that first opened at the top of School Hill in the centre of Lewes, East Sussex, opposite the War Memorial. The ethos for the shop is to bring the experience of Art out of the often rarefied space of the traditional gallery, to the High Street public, in a way which is vibrant, accessible and inclusive.
In June 2017, after nine months trading, they moved to their current location, a short walk down the road, in the basement at 23 High Street. The new premises has a larger workshop area with greater scope for running Art Classes, alongside their retail space. A regular and varied program of classes is planned to provide exciting, hands-on tuition in a wide variety of skills, including painting, drawing, calligraphy, pottery, lino-cutting, beading and more.
Andy and Carol are keen to promote the work of local artists as well as their own at the shop, with many artists whose work is on show, also teaching there. Items on sale range from abstract canvases, figurative and landscape paintings, jewellery, ceramics, sculpture and textiles, through to greetings cards and gifts.
